Tshwane's waste water treatment works are in dire need of maintenance

13 January 2011 — Melissa du Preez, a reporter at 94.2FM Jacaranda News, reported that the "Tshwane Municipality has admitted to crippling problems in maintenance and repairs of its waste water treatment plants throughout the city after a Jacaranda News investigation found a number of treatment plants were operating at minimum capacity with ageing infrastructure".

According to the article on 94.2FM Jacaranda News Blog, Koot Snyman, director for the council's water and sanitation department, said his biggest challenge was dealing with order backlogs to repair broken equipment and faulty electrics. "It's not funds that's the biggest problem. The biggest problem is to get purchase orders in time."

Our comment: It is more likely an inadequate system and a lack of skills.
